AP Miss Lunas Tide rolls to victory in Horseshoe Indianapolis

After finishing second last year, AP Miss Luna’s Tide rolled home to a victory in the 24^th running of the $84,200 Horseshoe Indianapolis Classic. It was the first stakes win for the homebred filly owned, trained and raised by Oscar Preciado.

AP Miss Lunas Tide and Isidro Banuelos began from post seven and was in mid pack early in the 400-yard dash. Tachas Secret, the two-time defending champion of the race, was leading the way along the inside for Fernando Morin with Flyin Cowgirl and Eduardo Diaz holding their own on the outside.

In an uncharacteristic move, Tachas Secret drifted out into the path of trailing horses and although she went across the wire first, she was disqualified to fifth place. The disqualification sent AP Miss Lunas Tide to the winner’s circle for the win.

AP Miss Lunas Tide paid $27.40 for the win. It was the sixth career win for the grey five-year-old daughter of Rip Tide and her third with Banuelos. The win was her richest to date, pushing her career bankroll to more than $150,000 in career earnings.

“She finished second in this race last year and her half-sister finished third in this race a few years ago, so it was important to us to get this win today,” said Preciado, who is a graduate of Notre Dame and works as a mechanical engineer for Genesis Products in Northern Indiana.”

AP Miss Lunas Tide, who carries the farm name from the Preciado barn representing his father and mother’s first names, has a full schedule left for 2026. With the majority of her starts at Horseshoe Indianapolis, Preciado plans to finish out the year in Indiana.

“We plan to take her to Kentucky for one race and then come back for the Championship,” added Preciado, who took a half day off from work to attend the race. “We are thinking of retiring her at the end of this year and breeding her for next year.”
