William Leander “Bill” Miller, age 77 of Lawrenceville, IL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Aperion Care of Vincennes, IN.
William Leander “Bill” Miller, age 77 of Lawrenceville, IL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Aperion Care of Vincennes, IN. He was born in Oblong, IL on August 28, 1948 to Albert and Betty (Watts) Miller.
Bill married the love of his life, Dixie Raydell Campbell, on September 27, 1975 in Lawrenceville, IL. Together for 50 years, Bill and Dixie raised their daughter, Laurie, and made many beautiful memories.
As a young man, Bill served his country as a member of the United States Army from April of 1968 through April of 1970. He served in the Republic of Vietnam Campaign and received the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Marksman (Rifle) Badge, and the Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars. He later became a member of the local VFW in Lawrenceville.
For many years, Bill had worked within the Lawrenceville school district as a janitor and eventually became an aid for students with disabilities. He later worked at ATS of Lawrenceville until his retirement.
Bill enjoyed making and painting model airplanes, fishing, hunting, gardening, taking care of his coy fish, and being outside.
Those left to carrying on his legacy of love and hard work include: his wife of 50 years- Dixie Miller; one daughter- Laurie Ann Cardinal and husband Eric; two grandsons- Christian Levi Worstell and Patrick Owen Worstell; three brothers- Roger Miller, David (Dago) Miller, and Carl Miller; two sisters- Mary Williams and husband Rick and Vicky Culbertson and husband Harold; four brothers-in-law- Jeff Farrar and wife Faith, Bill Campbell and wife Brenda, John Campbell and wife Kim, and Jack Campbell and wife Renie; and three sisters-in-law- Nola Davis and husband Jim, Galya Travis, Sandy Higgins and husband Bill.
He was preceded in death by: his parents- Albert and Betty Miller; his mother-in-law- Raydell Farrar; two brothers- Albert Miller, Jr. and Ronnie Miller; and two sisters- Carolyn Otey and Bernice Malone.
A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. (CST) until 1:00 p.m. (CST) on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at the Cunningham-Young Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, IL with funeral services to follow immediately at 1:00 p.m. (CST) at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Lawrenceville City Cemetery with military rites provided.
