Sharon M. Tewell, age 86, of Lawrenceville, Illinois, passed away peacefully with her loved ones by her side on Saturday, October 4, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Sharon M. Tewell, age 86, of Lawrenceville, Illinois, passed away peacefully with her loved ones by her side on Saturday, October 4, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was born January 23, 1939, in Vincennes, Indiana, the daughter of Robert Shafer and Louise Willis. She married Wilbur “Bud” Tewell on June 26, 1954, and he preceded her in death on January 5, 2024.
Sharon devoted her life to caring for her family and home. She loved playing Bingo, gardening, and watching the hummingbirds. Sharon and Bud shared a special joy for dancing together and created many cherished memories over the years. She was a devoted and loving mother who instilled strong values in her children and took great pride in her family. Time spent with her grandchildren brought her much happiness.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; brothers, Jack Shafer, Willie Shafer, Gary Shafer, and Dick Willis; and sister, Rose Miller.
Survivors include three children, Robert (Marinell) Tewell of Cresson, Texas, Cheryl (Warren) Ferguson of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Lisa (Brent) Vogel of Avon, Indiana; two sisters, Carolyn Parish of Vincennes, Indiana, and Sandy (Jack) Huffstutler of Petersburg, Indiana; grandchildren, Heidi Greene, Chad Hobbs, Justin Hobbs, Heather Hobbs, Ashley Tewell, and Ryan Tewell; seventeen great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the service hour. Burial will be in Lawrenceville City Cemetery.
