On Sunday, August 3, 2025, Phyllis G. Carrell passed away at the age of 82. She was a true treasure to her family and all that knew her. She was born to her parents, Ora and Nellie (Leib) Routien, on February 4, 1943, in Petrolia, IL at the family’s home.
Phyllis married the love of her life, Carlos Carrell, on December 21, 1968, in Lawrenceville. For more than 30 years, Phyllis and Carlos raised their two sons, Chad and Frankie, and enjoyed their time together until his passing in 2002.After Carlos’s passing, she went on trips with her Brother David, and spent time with her grandkids and brother Frank. She enjoyed shopping and eating and going on church retreats with her best friend Fredonna. She spent time going thrifting and to garage sales and eating with her daughter-in-law. Later on, she was blessed to find a friend to share life with, Donnie Collins. They enjoyed spending time together going out to eat, cruising, and watching tv. She also enjoyed spending time with Amanda, Beth, Christina, her brother Frank, and Carolina. She lived a life filled with love, eating, and shopping.
She had been a member of the Hi-Way Church of God of Lawrenceville and had worked for nearly 30 years as a CNA at the United Methodist Village. She also had worked at a pet store and would share stores from her time working there.
Phyllis had many hobbies and activities she enjoyed, but her family was always her greatest love. She absolutely loved her sons but truly adored her three grandsons, Cecil, Cameron, and Corey. She was blessed to have special relationships with her nieces, Amanda, Beth, Karen, Raydale, Vicki, Debbie, and Teresa.
She enjoyed Thursday evenings in Flat Rock listening to Bluegrass music, cooking, having cookouts, celebrating holidays, going out to eat…especially Midpoint Café, being outdoors, bird watching, yard sales, bragging about thrifting “bargains”, watching the Golden Girls, and traveling. Phyllis had a beautiful spirit about her. She was loving, caring, and kind, but was never afraid to tell you how she felt. You always knew where you stood with Phyllis.
Those carrying on her legacy of love include: one son- Chad Carrell and wife Heather of Lawrenceville; three grandsons- Cecil Carrell and significant other Nim, Cameron Carrell and significant other Carolina, and Corey Carrell all of Lawrenceville; one brother- Frank Routien of Bridgeport; nieces that she was especially close with- Amanda (Ashley) Routien, Beth (Michael) Tarr, and Karen, Raydale, and Vicki; and her extended family.
