Mary McKay, age 76, of Lawrenceville, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at her residence. She was born on July 14, 1949, in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of Albert Davis and Mary Bird Davis.
Mary devoted many years of her life to caring for others as a certified nursing assistant, a role that reflected her compassionate and giving nature. In her earlier years, she also worked as a teacher’s aide and delivered newspapers, demonstrating her strong work ethic and dedication throughout her life.
Mary found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She enjoyed working puzzles, reading books, playing card games, and going out to eat. Above all, she cherished the time spent with her family and her faithful companion of 17 years, Bambi, who brought her constant comfort and companionship.
Preceding Mary in death were her parents; her brothers, Bob Davis and Broadway Davis; her sister, Leatha Burke.
Survivors include her children, Vernon (Loretta) McKay of Lawrenceville, Illinois, Kevin McKay of Lawrenceville, Illinois, Patricia Downey of Lawrenceville, Illinois, Charles McKay, and Michael McKay; her brother, Carl (Susan) Davis of St. Patrick, Missouri; two sisters, Susan (Larry) Smith of Keokuk, Iowa, and Judy Murphy of Kehoka, Missouri; twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mary’s wishes were to be cremated. No formal services will be held. Graveside services will be held at a later date in Mary’s hometown.
