
Larry B. Leighty, 85, of La Rose Illinois, died on May 31, 2025 at his residence.
Larry B. Leighty, 85, of La Rose Illinois, died on May 31, 2025 at his residence. He was born on June 22, 1939 in Allendale, Illinois, to the late Kenneth and Virginia (Keplinger) Leighty. He married Shirley B. Hisele in Pontiac, Illinois on April 24, 1965. Shirley preceded him in death on December 18, 2017.
Larry graduated from high school and joined the Air Force with four years active duty and two in reserves. He was accountant by trade and worked for General Telephone for a few years before spending 14 years working in farm equipment and tractor sales. Larry served as an accountant for a group of lumberyards in the Midwest owned by Charles Allen. Larry spent the next 32 years working for the Allen Family Limited Partnership. Larry was a member of the American Legion and the Marshall County Historical Society. He also served on the Marshall County Board and acted as Chairman.
Preceding Larry in death were his parents, his brother, Jerry L. Leighty and his sister, Kay (Leighty) Fowler.
Larry is survived by his nieces: Jerri Lynn Leighty, Stacie (Leighty) Jefferson, and Gala Oswald; nephews, William Brent Fowler & Kenneth Fowler; his cousins, Rick Leighty, Mike Leighty, and Tim Leighty of Lawrenceville.
Larry requested to be cremated and laid to rest with his wife and family at the Keplinger Cemetery, north of Chauncey. Graveside services will be held Friday, June 27, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 2244
