Kathryn Faye Rundle, age 81 of West Frankfort, IL and formerly of Bridgeport, IL, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Herrin Hospital.
Kathryn Faye Rundle, age 81 of West Frankfort, IL and formerly of Bridgeport, IL, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Herrin Hospital. She was born at her family’s home in Bridgeport on December 27, 1944, to John and Ermel (Christy) Saums.
On June 28, 1969, Kathryn married the love of her life, Frank Rundle, in the Pisgah Presbyterian Church of Bridgeport. For 56 years, Frank and Kathryn loved each other, enjoyed their family, and made many beautiful memories.
After graduating from Bridgeport Township High School, she continued her education at Eastern Illinois University and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in 1967. Her dedication to education was very important to her as was exemplified by her never missing a single day of class in 16 years. Kathryn put her education to use by becoming a Home Economics teacher in Monticello, IL and working as a seamstress for Karen Mandrell and Crownline.
Kathryn enjoyed gardening, crocheting, sewing, word-find puzzles, baking, and canning. She was famous for her no-bake chocolate oatmeal cookies, chocolate cake, and the tremendous birthday cakes she made for the boys when they were growing up. Kathryn enjoyed her surprise lilies and the rose bushes in her yard she had gotten from her grandma’s house. She was also an Eastern Star member for many years.
Those left to continue her legacy include: husband- Frank Rundle of West Frankfort, IL: two sons- John Rundle of Madisonville, KY and Mark Rundle and wife Kim of Austin, MN: her two grandchildren- Kathryn and John Rundle of Austin, MN: four sisters- Martha Beck of Springfield, IL; Linda Roberts of Sebring, FL; Judy Stepp of Trenton, IL; and Mary (Vaughn) Waggoner of New Caney, TX: and sister-in-law: Mary Rundle and Rick Felski of Milwaukee, WI.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; three brothers-in-law- Donald Beck, James Roberts, and David Stepp; and niece- Carrie Schifferdecker.
A time of visitation will be held on Friday, February 13, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Cunningham Funeral Home in Bridgeport, IL with graveside services following at 2:30 p.m. in Pisgah Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
