Gregory Allen Bennett, age 72, of Olney, Illinois, formerly of Sumner, passed away on December 14, 2025, at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.
Gregory Allen Bennett, age 72, of Olney, Illinois, formerly of Sumner, passed away on December 14, 2025, at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney. He was born June 15, 1953 in Lawrenceville, Illinois, the son of Claude A. Bennett and Margie Gentry Bennett Scherer. He married Vickie West on February 26, 1972, and she survives.
A retired farmer, Greg dedicated his life to agriculture and his community. He was a lifelong member of Beulah Church. In his later years, Greg developed a strong passion for buying and selling cars and farm equipment and spent many enjoyable hours at his building at the Sumner intersection. He especially enjoyed attending Mecum Auto Auctions and watching Barrett-Jackson, as well as following local sports, OCC basketball, and browsing Facebook Marketplace.
Preceding Greg in death were his parents, Claude and Margie; infant daughter, Leslie Kathryn Bennett; brother, Phillip Bennett.
Survivors include: his wife, Vickie; two sons, Lee (Dannetta Hiatt-Bennett) Bennett of Evansville, Indiana, and Landon Bennett of Sumner; brother, Ronnie (Deanna) Bennett of rural Sumner; sisters, Carolyn McDonald of Olney and Gwyn (Wade) Wilson of Olney; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to the Heart Association or Beulah Harvest Church.
Per Greg’s request, private family graveside services are being conducted.
