Frances Lee (Biggs) Hughes, age 102, of Sumner, Illinois, formerly of Christopher, Illinois, passed away on March 22, 2026 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

Frances Lee (Biggs) Hughes, age 102, of Sumner, Illinois, formerly of Christopher, Illinois, passed away on March 22, 2026 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. She was born March 21, 1924, to George and Nellie (Hanson) Biggs. She was married to Marion Curtis Hughes on September 27, 1942, in Jackson, Missouri and he preceded her in death on October 6, 2016.

Frances Hughes was a devoted homemaker who dedicated her life to the care of her family and friends. A faithful and devout Christian, she was actively involved in her church and found great joy in participating in its many religious activities. Frances enjoyed crocheting, tending to her flower gardens, and spending time in the kitchen, where she was especially known for her homemade pizzas and baked goods. She also found comfort in listening to Gaither gospel music, which reflected her deep religious faith.

Preceding Frances in death were her parents, George and Nellie Biggs; husband, Marion Curtis Hughes and two brothers, Francis Elbert Biggs and Lloyd Raymond Biggs.

Survivors include three sisters-in-law: Shirley Burgett of Sumner, Illinois, Esther Hughes of Cortland, Illinois and Margery Vaughn of Lawrenceville, Illinois and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois on Monday, March 30, 2026, at 11 a.m. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. until the service hour of 11a.m. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Carbondale, Illinois on Tuesday, March 31,2026, at 12 p.m.
