Evelyn Lee Abernathy, age 82 of Bridgeport, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at GentleCare Strategies in Vincennes, IN.
On March 17, 1962, Evelyn married Jerry Russell Abernathy. Together, they raised their family and enjoyed the life they made until his passing on July 31, 1989.
After graduating from Bridgeport Township High School, Evelyn was a devoted homemaker to her family. She was a longtime member of the First Christian Church of Bridgeport. She enjoyed spending time outdoors anytime she could, was an avid reader, and loved the company of her dog.
Those surviving to carry on her love include: three daughters- Jerrie Roark and husband Terry of Sumner, Natalie Abernathy-Inboden of Robinson, and Laura Stephens and husband Bruce of Lawrenceville; two sisters- Jayne Rogers and Lorena Kensler both of Lawrenceville; five grandchildren- Jeremy Roark and wife Heather, Matthew Roark and wife Jana, Olivia Inboden and Brandon Copper, Hannah Shull and husband Ryan, and Avery Inboden and wife Samantha; fourteen great-grandchildren- Paisley Roark, Tillie Roark, Emric Roark, Zeke Roark, Lizzie Roark, Clayton Shidler, Khloee Copper, Mason Copper, Memphis Copper, Riley Shull, Roman Shull, Raya Shull, Maddox Inboden, Owen Inboden, Brielle Stephens, and Chloe Stephens (Fuller).
She was preceded in death by: her parents- Clarence and Ariel Stone; her husband- Jerry Russell Abernathy; and two brothers- Dallas Stone and Jim Stone.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Cunningham Funeral Home in Bridgeport. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. in Crest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery of Claremont.
