Clifford Allen Mills, affectionately known as "Butch," passed away on April 29, 2025, at Legacies Nursing and Rehab in Hemphill, Texas. Born on December 19, 1941, in East Chicago, Indiana, Butch was the beloved first born son of Bonnie and Lloyd C. Mills, who preceded him in death. He was raised in Petrolia, Illinois, where he completed his education by graduating from Bridgeport Township High School in 1960.
Following high school, Butch proudly served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1963. After his military service, he built a successful career as a union pipefitter and plumber, demonstrating both dedication and craftsmanship in his work. He married Shirley Craig in December of 1964 and she preceded him in death.
Butch was more than just a career man; he was a man of quiet strength, kindness, and generosity. He was known for his unwavering support of various charities, particularly those that aided children and animals. His gentle spirit and caring nature touched the lives of many.
An avid fisherman, Butch spent many winters as a "snowbird" at Holly Park Marina in Milam, Texas, before deciding to make it his permanent home. His family fondly recalls the joy of gathering for his famous fish fries at family reunions, a testament to his love for cooking and bringing loved ones together. Beyond fishing, Butch had a deep appreciation for literature and enjoyed winding down his evenings on the porch with his Kindle in hand.
Butch is survived by his brothers, James Richard Mills of Silver Spring, Maryland, and Michael Mills, along with his sister-in-law, Kathy Mills, both of Milam, Texas. He is also remembered fondly by several nieces and nephews who carry on his legacy of love and generosity. One brother, Donald E Mills, preceded him in death.
He was a proud 32nd degree Mason, reflecting his commitment to community and brotherhood.
As per his wishes, there will be no services. His family and friends take comfort in the memories they shared with him and the love he imparted to everyone he encountered. Butch's calming presence and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
