Anita Marie Cooper, age 63 of Bridgeport, passed away at her home surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. She was born October 1, 1961, in Effingham to Lowell Wilson and Rose (Utley) Wilson Wallace.
On May 9, 1986, Anita married Charlie Cooper. Together, they raised their family and enjoyed their time together until Charlie’s passing on July 17, 2020.
Anita was devoted to her family and friends and loved spending time with them. Her grandchildren were especially dear to her. She was a member of the Bridgeport Moose, spent time with her friends at Jay’s Tavern, and enjoyed camping and spending time at the river. For more than 19 years, she worked at Rucker’s Candy. She had previously worked at Roadmaster in Olney. Anita had always been a hard worker.
Those left to carry on her love include: two sons- Jason Cooper and wife Maddison of Bridgeport and Shawn Shinnebarger of Meredosia; two brothers- Steve Wilson and wife Sheila of Ingraham and Wayne Wilson and wife Dicie of Neoga; five grandchildren- Brooklyn, Bentley, Beckett, and Bryer Cooper and Sarah Shinnebarger; her nieces and nephews- Amy, Becky, Christina, Jennifer, Loran, Jessie, Chanc, Brantley, Megan, Abbie, Josh, Sabrina, Mandy, Travis, Clayton, Trevor, Trenton, and Stevie; her in-laws- Jim Cooper, Delores Cooper, Vicky Howell, Laura Cooper Carter, Julie Cooper, and Bradley Cooper; and her good friend and caregiver- Patricia Willis.
Anita was preceded in death by: her parents- Lowell Wilson and Rose Wallace; her husband- Charlie Cooper; one son- Brandon Cooper; one sister- Karen Sue Wilson Russell; one brother- Rodney Wilson, Sr.; and one nephew- Rodney Wilson, Jr.
A visitation will be held at the Cunningham Funeral Home in Bridgeport on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Burial in Sumner Cemetery will be scheduled at a later date.
