The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is announcing that the Martinsville VA Clinic, currently located in Morgan County, will officially close on September 12.
The closure is in preparation for the opening of a new, larger and more advanced VA clinic located in Bloomington, on Monday, Sept. 15.
The decision to consolidate services follows the completion of the I-69 corridor and the upcoming expiration of the lease for the aging Martinsville facility. The new Bloomington VA Clinic, just 19 minutes away, offers expanded services and access for Veterans across southern Indiana.
"This is a significant step toward expanding our care for Veterans in under-served areas," said Michael Hershman, Director of the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center. "No VA employees will lose their jobs — every employee at the Martinsville site has the opportunity to transfer to the new clinic."
Veterans currently enrolled at Martinsville will automatically have their care transitioned to the Bloomington location. Patients are welcome to choose another VA clinic if they prefer.
