Sunday afternoon, at about 2:15, a tornado watch was issued for Marshall County, and about 90 minutes later, the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning with 60-mile-per-hour winds and the possibility of nickel-sized hail.

The thunderstorm that blew through Marshall County Sunday afternoon caused a wide range of damage, from a mobile home being flipped over, trapping the resident, who had to be transported to the hospital, to trees falling on homes and across streets. Both NIPSCO and Marshall County REMC had widespread power outages due to downed power lines.

A Travel Advisory was issued in Marshall County at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday following the storm. With several city, town, and county roads closed due to downed trees and power lines, the county wanted drivers to be warned of the hazards and about utility companies, road crews, and fire departments working to clean up from the storm.

If your residence suffered structural damage from Sunday’s storm, you are urged to email Marshall County Emergency Management Agency Director Jack Garner at www.ema@co.marshall.in.us . Please include your address, the type of damage (i.e. tree into home), and some photos.
