Lacey Pfeiffer, Park Manager for Potawatomi Wildlife Park on State Road 331 near Tippecanoe, is excited about the park’s free, family-friendly Fishing Derby event this Saturday, September 6th.
The day begins with a pancake breakfast fundraiser from 7 to 9 a.m. in the Bessinger Pavilion.
FREE registration for the annual Fishing Derby is from 7:30 to 11 a.m., and fishing is from 8 a.m. to noon with rewards to follow at 12:15. Participants should bring their own fishing pole, bait, and a lawn chair. During the fishing derby, participants can enjoy complimentary refreshments served from a roaming cart with hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, and drinks.
There are three age categories: 0 to 9, 10 to 16, and 17 and over. There are also four fish categories: panfish, bass, catfish, and rough fish. For the youngest group, there is also recognition of the smallest catch, and a new rule this year is a limit of one pole per person on the pond to accommodate the growing attendance. New activities include fishing games from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. You can test your fish identification skills, make a key chain for your tackle box or bookbag, test your fishing pole assembly skills, and take the casting challenge.
The family-friendly Fishing Derby this Saturday at Potawatomi Wildlife Park also has over $1,000 worth of giveaways.
