Plymouth woman arrested for alleged neglect of dependent brother

A Plymouth woman has been arrested on charges of neglect of a dependent after police found her brother, who has developmental disabilities, had allegedly been bedridden without medical care for approximately two months.

Plymouth Police Officers responded to a North Walnut Street residence on November 28 at approximately 2:30 p.m. for a welfare check on Aaron Brown, 47, who had been bedridden for an extended period.

According to the police report, Aaron Brown has developmental disabilities that require him to have a legal guardian. He resided with his sister, Linda Brown, 69, who served as his court-appointed guardian.

During the investigation, officers determined that Aaron had allegedly remained in bed without receiving medical attention since sometime in September. He was immediately transported for medical care and remains hospitalized.

Indiana Adult Protective Services has been contacted regarding the case. Linda Brown was arrested on Wednesday, December 3rd and charged with neglect of a dependent.

Police noted that the complete details of the statute are not included in standard booking information. Under Indiana law, the statute for neglect of a dependent carries the same classification whether it results in death, catastrophic injury, or other harm.

Authorities are reminding the public that Indiana is a mandatory reporting state. This means all residents are legally required to report suspected cases of neglect, battery, or exploitation of endangered adults to Adult Protective Services or law enforcement.
