Plymouth Police officers made four arrests over the weekend of June 6 and 7, with incidents ranging from impaired driving and drug possession to battery and unlicensed vehicle operation.
The weekend's activity began Saturday evening, June 6, when Officer Schieber, working as part of Operation Pull Over — a detail focused on impaired and reckless driving — was notified of a speeding vehicle traveling northbound on U.S. 31. He located the vehicle near 11th Road and, during his investigation, observed signs of impairment when speaking with the driver, identified as Jesse Pittman, 32, of Walkerton.
A 15-year-old juvenile and 25-year-old Michal Cole, also of Walkerton, were passengers in the vehicle. Pittman was taken into custody on charges of felony operating a vehicle while intoxicated, OWI endangerment, and possession of marijuana with a prior. Cole was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia. Both were lodged at the Marshall County Jail.
Also over the weekend, Plymouth Police responded to a complaint at 1535 North Michigan Street at the Northgate Trailer Park, where a female resident at lot 224 reported being accosted by an unknown man on her porch. The victim told Officer Krynock that the man kissed her neck, exposed himself, and made unwanted physical contact before she was able to get inside her residence and call her sister. The sister arrived, found the man still on the porch, and photographed him as well as his vehicle and license plate. Officers located the vehicle at the Economy Inn and made contact with 43-year-old Alejandro Alex Martinez Lagares in his room. He was taken into custody and booked into the Marshall County Jail on charges of battery, public nudity, and making a false identity statement.
On Sunday morning, June 7, Plymouth Police were notified of a possibly impaired driver on Jefferson Street. Officer Wallace conducted a traffic stop near East Jefferson Street and Colonial Court. While no signs of impairment were observed, the driver, identified as Guadalupe Villegas Leanos, 34, of Plymouth, was found to be operating the vehicle with a suspended license — a prior offense. Leanos was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Marshall County Jail, where he was booked on a charge of driving while suspended with a prior.
Sunday afternoon, Patrolman Thornton stopped a vehicle on U.S. 31 that was not maintaining its lane of travel. While speaking with the driver, identified as Celin R. Cantillano Munguia, 54, of Indianapolis, it was determined that he had never obtained a valid driver's license. Munguia was taken into custody and booked into the Marshall County Jail for operating a motor vehicle without ever obtaining a license, with a prior.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
