A Marshall County man is facing serious felony charges after an investigation revealed he allegedly shot his girlfriend multiple times with a BB gun, causing a severe eye injury.
The investigation began on Friday, January 23, when officers with the Marshall County Sheriff's Department were called to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth. They arrived to find a female victim who had been struck several times by BB pellets, including at least one strike to her eye.
Following an investigation led by Detective Sergeant Jonathan Bryant, with assistance from Deputies Alex Truty and Robert Williams, 40-year-old Edwin Barker of Union Road in Plymouth was identified as the suspect. Barker was taken into custody on Monday, January 26, and is currently being held at the Marshall County Jail on a $250,000 cash bond.
Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Nicholas Langowski reviewed the case and filed the following formal charges against Barker for Aggravated Battery, as a level 3 felony, and Domestic Battery Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, as a level 5 felony.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed. The person charged is presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and is entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
