The Plymouth and Lincoln robotics programs have achieved a historic "triple crown" at the Indiana State Championship, officially qualifying one high school team and two middle school teams for the upcoming VEX Robotics World Championship in St. Louis this April.
Leading the charge for Plymouth High School is Team 586E, known as "Easy Breezy." Team members Freddy Kallenberg, Chance Miller, Wyatt Houin, and Cora Hanes stunned the state by ranking first in Indiana in the Robot Skills Challenge. Remarkably, this was the team’s first time ever running their full skills program in competition. Their stellar performance currently ranks them 36th in the world out of thousands of teams across more than 50 countries.
The success extended to Lincoln Junior High, where two teams defied the odds to secure world-qualifying spots. In a state that boasts more robotics teams than almost any other, only 11 middle school slots were available for the entire state of Indiana. With over 300 teams statewide, the qualification rate for middle schoolers is less than 4%.
Team 587Z, the "Zingbots," consisting of students Luci Hamand, Sydney Morrison, Carter Richards, and Hayden Barnhart, proved their engineering mettle to secure their place among the global elite. Joining them will be Team 587V, the "Volcanoes," featuring Bear Kallenberg and Bradyn Mabie, who received a prestigious invitation to compete on the world stage after a standout finish to the regular season.
The Lincoln Jr. High students will now join 588 of the best middle school teams from around the globe this April at the America’s Center Convention Complex in St. Louis. Meanwhile, the Plymouth High School team will compete against 830 of the world's top high school robotics teams.
Representing Plymouth on a global stage comes with significant costs for registration and travel. To make the trip a reality, the teams are currently seeking local sponsors and donations from the community.
