Illinois State Police Troop 9 based out of Effingham has announced they will be conducting Nightime Enforcement (NITE) patrols this month of December in Lawrence County.
NITE patrols allow the state police to focus on preventing, detecting, and taking enforcement action in response to impaired driving and occupant restraint violations especially between the hours of 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Alcohol and drug impairment is estimated to be a factor in close to 50% of all fatal motor vehicle crashes across the state with over half of those fatal crashes occurring at night.
