Gov. Mike Braun Friday announced the launch of the Indiana All Payer Claims Database (APCD) public-facing chatbot, a first-of-its-kind tool among APCDs nationwide. Designed to make health price and utilization data more accessible, the new chatbot enhances transparency and supports informed decision making for Hoosiers. This new tool supports Gov. Braun’s health care agenda by emphasizing patient decision-making, greater transparency, and increased competition to reduce costs.
“Hoosiers deserve clear, accessible information about the price and quality of healthcare services. This new chatbot makes it easier for patients and families to get the data they need, and it is another step toward greater transparency, stronger competition, and lower healthcare costs in Indiana.” — Governor Mike Braun
Benefits for Hoosiers
The Indiana APCD is a statewide database that collects healthcare claims information and cash prices, and quality data from various sources, such as health insurers, and provides valuable healthcare insights. Currently, 26 states, including Indiana, have an All Payer Claims Database established or in development. Visit the Indiana APCD website at http://www.in.gov/idoi/apcd/.
The Indiana APCD chatbot enhances the search experience within the database by offering several key advantages:
- It is interactive and provides guided, easy-to-follow responses.
- It pulls relevant information from several state websites, streamlining the search process.
- It serves as a centralized, one-stop resource for health price and utilization information.
- The tool is available 24/7, reducing response times and improving access to data for researchers, policymakers, healthcare providers, and residents.
“By helping Hoosiers find clear, accurate information from the APCD, we empower individuals, families, and communities to make better healthcare decisions. The chatbot shows our commitment to transparency, ease of use, and better health across Indiana,” said Jonathan Handsborough, Indiana APCD Division Executive Director.
How to Use the Chatbot
Users can access the chatbot directly from the Indiana APCD homepage by clicking the Indiana APCD Chatbot link at the top of the page or selecting the chat icon in the bottom right corner of the screen. From there, users can simply type their questions related to the Indiana APCD and receive guided, interactive responses.
Development of the Chatbot
The Indiana Department of Insurance established the Indiana APCD in partnership with OnPoint Health Data. In evaluating the potential for a chatbot, the APCD Division collaborated with OnPoint through an iterative development process, resulting in a tool designed to be accurate, straightforward, and accessible to Hoosiers seeking healthcare information.
