A two vehicle crash occurred on State Road 39 just south of County Road 650 South in Clinton County.
Preliminary investigation indicates a 2025 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling southbound on State Road 39 just before 5 a.m. Friday. A 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by Chief Deputy Cesar Munoz of the Frankfort Police Department, was traveling northbound on State Road 39. The Chevrolet Malibu was attempting to pass an unknown vehicle when it entered the northbound lane and into the path of the Tahoe. Both vehicles left the east side of the roadway before colliding.
All occupants involved in the crash were transported to a Lafayette area hospital. The driver of the Chevrolet Malibu was pronounced deceased by the Tippecanoe County Coroner’s Office. The identity of the driver will be released by the Tippecanoe County Coroner’s Office at a later date.
A passenger in the Malibu and Chief Deputy Cesar Munoz were both transported to a Lafayette area hospital. Both are currently listed in stable condition.
The crash remains under investigation by the Indiana State Police Crash Reconstruction Team. Assisting at the scene were the Indiana State Police Lafayette District, the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, the Frankfort Police Department, and Miller’s Towing.
