Failure to Appear tops the August list of reasons for being booked into the county jail

Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel released the August Activity Report on Friday that shows the number one reason for being booked into the County Jail last month was Failure to Appear, with 28 arrests, followed by Operating While Intoxicated with 21 bookings, and number 3 Driving While Suspended with 18 people being lodged in the jail. Operator Never Licensed was 4^th with 16 arrests, and 5^th was Possession of Marijuana with 14 bookings.

Rounding out the top ten is Battery at 6^th with 7 arrests, Probation Violations was 7^th with 6 people being lodged, and 8^th was Reckless Driving with 6 arrests. The number 9 reason people were arrested in August was Public Intoxication with 5 bookings, and Theft rounded out the top ten with 5 arrests.

There were a total of 152 arrests last month with the DNR and Community Corrections each having 2, Bourbon Police arrested 3, Argos Police made 4 arrests, followed by Culver Police with 5, and Bremen Police with 6 arrests. Troopers with the Indiana State Police arrested six individuals last month, Plymouth Police Officers made 48 arrests, and deputies with the Sheriff’s Department made 76 arrests.

County Day was held on September 17th, when there were 138 people in the county jail, comprising 113 males and 25 females. 6 inmates were serving time with misdemeanor charges, and 22 were serving felony charges. 93 inmates were being held pre-trial, 14 were awaiting arraignment, 2 were being held for another agency, and 1 was in on a court-ordered hold.

The average daily population in August was 138, while six months earlier it was 129 and one year earlier it was 131.

Police Officers with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department investigated 66 traffic accidents in August, 51 were property damage and 15 involved a personal injury.

County officers initiated 69 case reports, wrote 139 warnings or citations, and conducted 7 security checks.

The Marshall County Central Dispatch Center answered 5,072 calls, and out of that, 1,377 were 911 calls, with 99.4 were answered in 10 seconds or less. The Sheriff’s Department also responded to 1,374 calls for service in August.
