On Wednesday morning, December 11th, at approximately 11:27, the Marshall County Central Dispatch Center received a 911 call with a report that an 8-month-old female was not breathing at a residence in the Creekside Mobile Home Park at 2662 Michigan Road, located just south of LaPaz.
When first responders arrived at the home, aid was rendered to the child and she was transported by ambulance to Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth for further care. The infant was ultimately pronounced deceased at the hospital.
County Officers responded to the residence and to the hospital to investigate the incident. The investigation is ongoing, but the initial assessment is that the death of the child was accidental. Police continue to investigate the incident, including an autopsy.
A final report will be submitted to the Marshall County Prosecutor's Office for consideration at the conclusion of the investigation.
LaPaz EMS, LaPaz Fire, Marshall County Police, the Indiana Department of Child Services, and the Marshall County Coroner’s Office are all involved in the incident.
