The City of Shelbyville and DJM Investments LLC will break ground Tuesday, Sept. 15, on Summit of Shelbyville, a new $35 million market-rate apartment development along the Progress Parkway corridor.
The community is invited to attend the groundbreaking ceremony at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, at the project site near the intersection of Highpointe Boulevard and Progress Parkway.
The first phase of Summit of Shelbyville will include four three-story apartment buildings totaling 72 two-bedroom, 1.5-bath units. The development will be constructed on approximately 6.5 acres southwest of the Highpointe Boulevard and Progress Parkway intersection.
“Housing has been a priority throughout my term because a growing community needs options for people at every stage of life and every income level,” Mayor Scott Furgeson said. “We’ve added affordable apartments at The Mill, workforce housing at Eight37 Lofts, partnered with Intend Indiana to create affordable paths to homeownership, and welcomed new single-family neighborhoods across Shelbyville. Summit of Shelbyville adds another piece to that mix with new market-rate apartments. The goal has never been one type of housing — it’s making sure people who want to live, work and build a life in Shelbyville have choices.”
DJM Investments LLC, led by developer David Muselman, is developing the project. Plans include pedestrian trail connectivity to Progress Parkway and vehicle access from Highpointe Boulevard. Four apartment buildings will be located along the north side of the development and four along the south, with parking located between the buildings.
The development represents an estimated $35 million investment in Shelbyville and continues residential growth along the Progress Parkway corridor, an area that has also seen significant commercial and industrial development.
Future phases are anticipated on property east of Highpointe Boulevard and could include additional residential development and amenities such as a clubhouse and pickleball courts.
The City of Shelbyville Redevelopment Commission established the DJM/Deer Valley Drive Allocation Area to support infrastructure and development associated with the project. The allocation area allows tax increment financing generated by new development within the area to be used toward eligible project and infrastructure costs.
