United States Attorney Adam L. Mildred credited the Logansport Police Department and Cass County prosecutor Noah Schafer for helping secure a guilty plea and sentencing of an Auburn man last week.
According to reports, United States District Court Judge Cristal C. Brisco sentenced Dustin Hampshire, 42, of Auburn, to 70 months in prison after Hampshire plead guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm. Hilliard will also have two years of supervised release following his sentence.
The sentence stems from his arrest on March 2, 2026, after Cass County Sheriff deputies responded to a call about Hampshire acting erratically in the parking lot of a family restaurant. When deputies arrested Hampshire they found three firearms in the trunk of his car, with one of the firearms being a short-barrel shotgun.
In 2019 Hampshire was convicted for burglary, a Level 4 Felony; which prohibited him from possessing any firearms. Hampshire's case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Logansport Police Department, and referred by the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office led by Noah Schafer. Hampshire's case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Andrew A. Krumwied.
“Today’s 70-month prison sentence sends a clear message that convicted felons who choose to unlawfully possess firearms will face serious consequences,” said United States Attorney Adam L. Mildred. “By working hand-in-hand with our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners, we ensure both accountability and deterrence through the rigorous prosecution of the most serious offenses. We remain fully committed to removing illegal weapons from our streets and keeping our communities safe.”
