Board of Public Works & Safety approves July 19th closure of Beerenbrook St. for grand opening

Last week, the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety considered a request to close Beerenbrook Street from West Jefferson Street north to the alley on the west side of the bowling alley. The request by General Manager Lindsey Einspahr and owner Grant Holm was for 11 consecutive Saturdays from June 28^th through September 6^th.

Neither requester attended the meeting, but they were told they needed to attend to answer questions from the board.

King Pin Corner Bar & Lounge requested the closure of a half block of Beerenbrook next to the bowling alley from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. each Saturday evening to allow patrons to participate in outdoor activities such as a cornhole competition.

While the dates requested are June 28^th through September 6^th, their grand opening will be July 19^th. It was noted in the written request that they are still waiting for approval from the Indiana Excise Office to permit alcoholic beverages to be consumed outdoors of the facility.

City Attorney Jeff Houin said the request before the board is simply to close the street for outdoor activities on those Saturday evenings. He said the alcohol isn’t a decision for the Board of Public Works and Safety to deal with.

Mayor Robert Listenberger commented with no one in attendance to answer questions, maybe the request should be tabled.

Councilman Dave Morrow said your next meeting isn’t until July later in July so they would miss three events.

Fire Chief Steve Holm spoke on behalf of his son’s request saying, “Throughout the summer they want to have a night every week basically like a cornhole tournament as the main attraction and to bring notoriety to the new business.”

The Plymouth Plan Director has had conversations with Grant Holm about their current project. While they want to add additional seating on the Beerenbrook side they are also talking about play spaces and seating in the parking lot on the east side of the building. Ty Adley said they are currently looking into the location of property lines for the bowling alley.

After additional discussion and with concerns of repeated closures of Beerenbrook Street, the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety unanimously approved a street closure for King Pin Bar & Lounge for their grand opening on July 19^th from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
