A 33-year-old man was arrested earlier this month after officers discovered approximately 150 images depicting child sex abuse material on his phone.
According to court documents, on Dec. 2, Cortland Minix, 33, of Kingsford Heights, was arrested on charges of possession of child pornography and four counts of possession of child sex abuse material, all Level 6 Felonies.
The probable cause affidavit revealed that the Rochester Police Department had been conducting an ongoing investigation involving Minix as a suspect when a search warrant for Minix's cellphone was granted on Nov. 10.
After reviewing the data from Minix's phone, officers discovered more than 150 images of child sexual abuse material dated from 2025 between May to October. During the time Minix had been in possession of the CSAM he had been living in Fulton County. Documents state many of the CSAM images were of children under the age of 12, with an age rage from infants to post pubescent females.
Officers also found other images on Minix's phone of his family members and pets that were not CSAM dated from May 9, 2025, further revealing Minix had been in possession of the cellphone when the CSAM began being possessed on the phone. Texts between Minix and his long-term girlfriend were also analyzed, with officers noting frequent fights between the couple over Minix being possessive over his cell phone and refusing to give his girlfriend his password.
An initial hearing for Minix is scheduled Jan. 5, 2026 in Fulton County Circuit Court.
