Lawrenceville High School Drama Club will present VOICES from THE HANGING marking the 180th anniversary of the execution of Betsey Reed on Friday, May 23.
The restored Lawrenceville High School Drama Club will present VOICES from THE HANGING marking the 180th anniversary of the execution of Betsey Reed on Friday, May 23 at 7:00 PM (Central Time) at the high school auditorium. Betsey Reed was convicted of poisoning her husband, Leonard, with arsenic in his sassafras tea. She was executed on May 23, 1845 in Lawrenceville. Research by the Lawrence County Historical Society has cast doubt upon her guilt. The play will present that evidence along with words from the original court documents and newspapers of the time.
