Waldron's Williams, Shelbyville's O'Connor and Morristown's Allford closing track and field season at state championship meets

Three Shelby County track and field athletes will close out their seasons at the IHSAA Track and Field State Championships.

The girls take center stage first Friday at the North Central High School Track and Field Complex in Indianapolis.

Field events start at 3 p.m. Opening ceremonies commence at 6:10 p.m. ahead of the finals for all the running events except the 3,200 meter relay which starts at 4:15 p.m.

Shelbyville junior Sonora O’Connor (photo, far left) will run in the second of three heats (10 runners per heat) of the 300 hurdles. Her regional time of 45.57 seconds is fifth fastest in her heat and 15^th fastest in the field.

Waldron freshman Maleah Williams will be in action at 3 p.m. in the discus competition. She also is in the shot put field, which is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.

Williams will be in the second of two flights (15 competitors in each flight) in the discus event. Her regional throw of 144 feet, seven inches is the third best in the state finals field. She is one of three freshmen in the competition.

Franklin sophomore Maddison Judge is the top qualifier at 157-7. Western senior Ellyse Walden is second at 145-9.

Williams is the 10^th overall seed in the shot put based on her regional distance at 42-5. She is one of two freshmen in the field.

Western’s Walden is the top seed at 48-8.5. Whiteland senior Carly VonDielingen is the second seed at 45-0.

On Saturday, the boys descend on North Central for state finals competition.

Morristown sophomore Colston Allford will not have to wait long to begin competing in the high jump (3:30 p.m.).

Allford’s regional height of 6-3 has him seeded 22^nd out of 33 competitors.

Warsaw senior Jordan Randall is the top seed at 7-2. Fishers senior Konrad Hayden is the second seed at 6-11.
