Rochester used a dominant second quarter to pull away from a new opponent in a Week 4 road matchup.
The Zebras (3-1) overwhelmed tenth-ranked (1A) Clinton Prairie 36-13 in the second quarter to open up what had been a slim 6-0 Rochester lead after the first twelve minutes.
Clinton Prairie (3-1) became the opponent for the Zebras when due to a limited number of players Wabash elected to play 8-man football just before the season started.
Rochester scored six of the team’s seven offensive touchdowns with a ground game that ate up 289 yards rushing on better than 11 yards per carry. That included three runs of 30 yards or more (30, 50, and 73).
Senior Kale Shotts led the Rochester rushing attack with 169 yards on just seven carries to go with three touchdowns. Trenton Meadows rushed for two touchdowns and 62 yards on just five carries.
Sophomore Gavin Fincher accounted for the 30-yard run on his only carry that went for the other rushing touchdown.
Junior Alex Chapman caught an 18-yard touchdown from quarterback Mitchell Clark. Clark only threw four times but completed three for 103 yards. His other two completions were for 42 yards to Grant Holloway and 43 yards to Meadows.
Rochester added a score on a Mason Oliver 98-yard return of an interception. Holloway also had a pick for the Zebras defense. Holloway led the Zebra defense in tackled with 9.
Rochester returns to TRC action Friday with a road trip to Lewis Cass.
