Prep Report: Morristown secures girls basketball program's first MHC championship

Nevaeh Cox had a nearly-perfect shooting performance to help Morristown capture the girls basketball program’s first-ever Mid-Hoosier Conference championship.

Cox made 10-of-11 shots to score a game-high 20 points and propel the Yellow Jackets to a 72-28 win Thursday over Hauser.

Nevaeh Sanders finished with 19 points and eight steals and Danika Rutledge added 14 points and seven rebounds.

Morristown improved to 12-7 this season and finished 6-0 against MHC opposition. The Yellow Jackets already clinched at least a share of the conference championship and needed to defeat the Jets to claim it outright.

Morristown raced out to a 24-6 lead after one quarter on the Jets (10-10, 2-3 MHC) then extended it to 48-10 by halftime.

Jayla Keithley finished with nine points, six rebounds and nine assists in the win. Emma Nelson hit a pair of 3s to finish with six points.

Morristown plays its final home game of the season Monday against Knightstown (9-8) – a potential Sectional 59 opponent.

New Palestine 62, Waldron 21

At Waldron, the visiting Dragons produced a season high for points scored to even their record at 9-9.

The Mohawks lost their fourth straight to fall to 6-14.

Waldron hosts Edinburgh (8-12) Monday in its final home game of the season.
