Prep Report: Burnett propels TC soccer to HLC win at Monrovia

Maddie Burnett scored two goals in the second half to lead Triton Central to a 2-1 victory Wednesday at Monrovia.

The Bulldogs (2-3, 0-2 Hoosier Legends Conference) led 1-0 at halftime but were held scoreless the entire second half.

Burnett pushed her team-leading goals scored total to nine this season.

With the win, the Tigers improved to 4-3 this season and are now 3-1 against HLC opponents.

Girls soccer

Greenwood 2, Shelbyville 0

At Shelbyville, the visiting Woodmen scored a goal in each half to secure the HLC victory over the Golden Bears (3-3, 2-2 HLC).

Greenwood improved to 4-3 (2-1 HLC).

Boys tennis

Shelbyville 4, Pendleton Heights 1

At Pendleton Heights, the Golden Bears secured their third win of the week with a sweep of the doubles matches.

At No. 1 doubles, Jack Van Wye and Cooper Reed improved to 5-4 this season with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Wade Paul and Logan Romine.

Sophomores Owen Shively and Grant Tackett pushed their record to 7-2 with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Shuyu Seguchi and Wagner Conway.

Bram Kolkmeier dominated at No. 2 singles, producing a 6-1, 6-1 win over Grady Roberts.

Kody Sellers returned to the varsity lineup and defeated Nolan Dujmovich at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-1.

Pendleton Heights’ lone win came at No. 1 singles where Josiah Davis topped Kashton Laycock, 6-2, 6-1.

Shelbyville improved to 5-4.

Greenfield-Central 3, Triton Central 2

At Greenfield-Central, the visiting Tigers won two singles matches but could not secure a third match victory to defeat the Cougars.

At No. 2 singles, TC’s Bradyn Robinson defeated Raleigh Gantt, 6-1, 6-1.

Drayton Kermode needed a third set to defeat Greenfield-Central’s Nash Berty, 2-6, 7-6 (4), 10-8 at No. 3 singles.

The Cougars won both doubles matches and the No. 1 singles match in straight sets.

Triton Central dropped to 7-3.
