Several local youth wrestlers from Lawrence County were in action this past weekend in various state competitions.
The amazing Norah Shick won a state championship for the third straight year as she took the 102-pound novice weight division at the Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation (IKWF) state finals at Peoria. Elli Thorne also placed second in the senior 85 # division and Karsyn McClellan finished 8th in the 85# novice division at Peoria.
Three Lawrence County (Parkview) wrestling Braves placed third in their weight classes at the Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA) Junior High State finals at Northern Illinois University (NIU) at DeKalb. Quinten Shaffer competed at 70 pounds, Emery Crutchfield at 135 pounds and Max Brown at 145 pounds.
Lawrenceville freshman Jude DeCausey competed in the Illinois Wrestling Coaches Association (IWCOA) Frosh-Soph State Meet at Springfield and did not place. He went 2-2 on the weekend.
