Shelbyville sophomore Riley Everette finished less than one second away from qualifying for the IHSAA Swimming and Diving State Finals.
Competing Saturday at the New Palestine Sectional, Everette finished second in the 50-yard freestyle in 24.92 seconds. Greenfield-Central’s Rachel Stutz won the race in 24.01 to earn the state finals berth.
Everette (photo, right) also finished third in the 100 butterfly in 59.54. Greenfield-Central’s Taylor Parsons won the event in 57.29.
Everette also was part of Shelbyville’s third-place finishing 200 freestyle relay team. She joined with Miriam Garringer, Naomi Garringer and Paige Bohman to stop the clock in 1:44.99.
In other sectional events featuring Shelbyville swimmers:
- Miriam Garringer finished sixth in the 200 freestyle in 2:07.67 and seventh in the 100 freestyle in 57.4.
- Naomi Garringer placed 11th in the 50 freestyle in 26.74 and 10th in the 100 freestyle in 1:00.15.
- Paige Bohman finished 12th in the 50 freestyle (27.25) and 12th in the 100 freestyle (1:00.88).
- Emma Wheelhouse finished 15th in the 100 butterfly (1:35.88).
