Collegiate Update: Ball wins five matches at Tom Jarman Spartan Classic

Triton Central graduate Landon Ball placed fifth overall Saturday for Wabash wrestling at the Tom Jarman Spartan Classic at Manchester University.

Competing at 197 pounds, Ball finished the day 5-1, losing his only match in the quarterfinal round.

Ball opened the event with identical 3-0 wins over Thomas More’s Zach Watson and Albion’s Tanner Buxton.

Baldwin Wallace’s Joseph Petrella defeated Ball in the quarterfinal round, 19-3.

Ball returned to the mat and won three consolation matches. He defeated Case Western Reserve’s Alexander Goldman (7-6), Cornerstone’s Jackson Turner (11-2) and Albion’s Wyatt Signiarecki (13-3) to secure fifth place in the bracket.

Wabash took first place in the team standings in an event that featured 17 teams.

Here is a look at other Shelby County graduates competing at the collegiate level.

Brooklyn Bailey

The Triton Central graduate produced a double-double Saturday in Kaskaskia College’s 70-63 win over Lewis & Clark Community College. She had 13 points, 10 rebounds and one steal.

On Wednesday, Bailey finished with eight points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals in a 62-60 loss to John Wood Community College.

Kaskaskia is 6-11 this season.

Olivia Faust

The Triton Central graduate had 14 points, four rebounds and one assist Wednesday in Marian’s 84-47 win over Indiana Wesleyan.

On Saturday, Huntington ended a 23-game losing streak to Marian, 77-67. Faust finished with three points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal for the No. 4 ranked Knights (17-2, 7-2 Crossroads League).

Tenleigh Phelps

The Triton Central graduate had a game-high 23 points, eight rebounds and six assists Thursday in IU South Bend’s 79-61 win at Judson University in Elgin, Illinois.

Phelps finished with 12 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals Saturday in IU South Bend’s 86-75 loss at Holy Cross College in Notre Dame, Indiana.

The Titans are 12-6 this season.

Bella Larrison

The Waldron graduate notched a double-double Saturday in Anderson’s 86-74 win over Earlham College. She finished with 18 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists to improve the Ravens to 9-7 (5-4 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference).

On Wednesday, Larrison had 22 points, eight rebounds and three assists in Anderson’s 92-81 win at Manchester.

Emma Nelson

The Morristown graduate finished with six points, four rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block Jan. 13 in Marian Ancilla’s 49-21 win at Andrews University.

On Saturday, Nelson collected four points, one rebound and one steal in Marian Ancilla’s 71-42 loss at Lansing Community College.

Marian Ancilla is 8-7 this season.

Ethan Lambert

The Shelbyville graduate finished 11th in the weight throw (43 feet, 10 inches) and 12th in the shot put (38-7) for the University of Indianapolis Friday at the Indiana Tech Indoor Invitational in Fort Wayne.

Larry Cole Friday Night Spikes Opener

At Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute Friday, four Shelby County graduates represented Franklin College at the indoor track and field meet.

Triton Central graduate Brayden Wilkins finished third in the 60-meter dash in 7.12 seconds.

Shelbyville graduate Blake Hughes placed seventh in the 400 meters in 54.36.

Shelbyville graduate Christian Powell finished ninth in the 400 in 55.01.

And Shelbyville graduate Logan Page finished 25th in the 60 (7.44) and 20th in the 200 meters in 24.93.
