Class 2A, No. 11 Triton Central headed for sectional showdown with No. 16 Eastern Hancock

Triton Central and Eastern Hancock are now preparing for another girls basketball sectional showdown.

On Wednesday at Heritage Christian High School in Class 2A, Sectional 43, No. 16 Eastern Hancock defeated Christel House, 71-15, while No. 11 Triton Central routed Irvington Prep, 74-5.

The Royals (15-8) will face the Tigers (19-4) in the second semifinal game Friday at Heritage Christian. Eastern Hancock has won six straight against Triton Central, including a Nov. 15 win in Fairland, 58-57.

In the first semifinal Friday, No. 8 Heritage Christian (16-8) hosts Indianapolis Scecina (6-13).

On Wednesday, the Tigers built a 23-1 lead after one quarter and extended it to 50-1 at halftime.

 

 

Eleven different Tigers scored in the win, led by a season-high point total from Lexi Eubanks (photo) with 19 points. Maryrose Felling finished with 14 points and Kate Collier added 13.

Rylee Pruitt came off the bench and scored eight points.

Triton Central’s last win over Eastern Hancock came on Nov. 13, 2021, or when the current seniors were in eighth grade. The Royals avenged that loss in the postseason, 66-65 in triple overtime.

Friday’s game will feature two of the state’s top scorers in Eastern Hancock’s McKenzie Koch (25.6 ppg) and Triton Central’s Maryrose Felling (23.3 ppg).

Triton Central and Eastern Hancock did not meet in the postseason in 2025, but the Royals eliminated the Tigers three consecutive years from 2022-2024.
