William Richard "Dick" Ault, 89, passed Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at his home near Akron peacefully with his daughters by his side.
Dick was born on April 15, 1937 at home in Akron, Indiana to the late Glen and Lilly (Loher) Ault. He was preceded by 6 sisters and a brother. A sister Mary Louise Shoemaker of Roann and a brother John Ault of Akron survive. He was a 1956 graduate of Beaver Dam High School, where he excelled playing basketball, scoring in the top 10 all-time. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife Barbara Joan (Hite) Ault. Their marriage was on March 6, 1965, they shared 60 years together until her passing on April 15, 2024. They had two daughters Cheryl Hiatt of Warsaw and Tammy and husband Doug Shively of Akron, who survive.
He proudly worked at Sonoco Products Company for 15 years, while starting his farm. He was a jack of all trades. In his spare time he loved playing shuffleboard, coon hunting, poker, mushroom hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also was a regular at Tippecanoe Valley, attending as many games as he could. Supporting his grandchildren as well as all of the athletes.
Dick is also survived by grandchildren Brandon and wife Natasha Ault of Warsaw and great grandchildren Lily and Isaiah Ault; Whitney and husband Jeremy Mack of Goshen and great grandchildren Kaizer Mack and twins Roman and Nora Pohl; and Toni Shambaugh of Akron and great grandchildren Galvin, Thad, and Soleil "Shula" Shambaugh.
The funeral service will take place at 10:30 am, Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at Hartzler Funeral Home 305 West Rochester Street Akron, Indiana with Pastor Glen Hughes officiating.
His interment will take place following the service in the Palestine Cemetery, Palestine, Indiana next to his wife Barb.
Visitation hours will be held from 5 pm to 8 pm, Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, Indiana.
Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to Tippecanoe Valley High School Athletics.
