Rita Kay (Howard) Long, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on February 5, 2026, in Plymouth, Indiana, at the age of 72. Born on October 20, 1953, in Orangeville, MI, Rita's warm, generous spirit will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
The daughter of the late Wiley Howard and Lavotis (Reed) Minix, Rita grew up in a large and loving family. She often shared fond memories of her childhood spent with her siblings. Although she faced the challenge of not completing high school as a teen, Rita's determination to succeed led her to later earn her GED—an accomplishment that filled her with immense pride.
For over 15 years, Rita dedicated her services as a custodian to the Plymouth Community Schools. She genuinely enjoyed her work and took great pride in contributing to the cleanliness and welcoming environment of the schools she tended to, earning the affection and respect of staff and students alike.
On April 13, 1993, Rita married her beloved husband, William Long, in Syracuse, Indiana. Their loving union began in 1978 and continued until William's passing on July 22, 2013. The couple enjoyed many happy years together, filled with mutual support and love. Rita was a beacon of strength and devotion, always putting her family first.
Rita was a devout member of the House of the Lord in Plymouth, serving with unwavering faith and commitment. Her dedication to the church nursery was both an expression of her love for children and a testament to her caring nature. Rita's nurturing spirit extended far beyond her family; it was felt by the entire congregation.
When not serving in her church or working, Rita found solace and joy in her yard, cultivating her flowers, and creating a space of beauty and tranquility. Above all, her greatest joy was being a grandmother to Alexandria (Kyle), Noah (Alicia), Daisy, Bella (Brandon), Nicholai, and Lilly knew the plentiful love and boundless affection of their grandmother, a love that will continue to guide and inspire them throughout their lives.
Rita leaves behind a legacy of love and perseverance, as evidenced by the family she so cherished. She is survived by her children, Robert (Maria) Pesak, Adam Pesak, and Angela (Richard) Lokun, as well as her loving grandchildren. She is also lovingly remembered by her sisters, Donna (Greg) Stiles, Wanda Dugard, and Ellie Mae Whitaker.
