Martha E. Burns, 91, of Shelbyville, passed away Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Ashford Place.
Born on December 19, 1934, in Shelbyville she was the daughter of Samuel Thomas Gobel and
Mary Elizabeth (Hamilton) Gobel. She married Donald R. Burns on August 21, 1976, and he
preceded her in death in 2016.
Survivors include 1 son James Dunagan of Shelbyville; 5 grandchildren- Brittany (Steven) Emery,
Bethany (Logan) Shuppert, Ashley (John) Kindred, Braden Adam (Derrick Knox) Drake, Abigail (Derrick) Huber ; 6
great grandchildren- Callie Rae Emery, Drake Emery, Rhys Shuppert, Harlow Shuppert, Cohen Shuppert,
Ruger Kindred; and 1 sister- Sharon Hancock of Franklin; nieces Rea Watson and Lisa Bippus.
She was preceded in death by her husband Donald, her parents, sister- Donna Gobel Watson, daughter-
Janet Drake, brother- Bob Gobel, and niece Peggy Hancook.
Martha was a lifetime resident of this area and graduated from Shelbyville High School. She worked at KCL
Corp for 32 years, retiring in 1991. She was a member of Lewis Creek Baptist Church.
She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, but most of all loved spending time with her family.
Funeral services will be 1:00pm, Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at Lewis Creek Baptist Church,
1400 E. 600 S, Waldron with Rev. Timothy Mohon officiating. Burial will be in Lewis Creek Baptist Cemetery.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday morning from 11:00 am until the time of the service, at the church.
