Marilyn J. Bushfield, 91, of Shelbyville

Marilyn J. Bushfield, 91, of Shelbyville, passed away on, Friday, July 10, 2026, at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis.

She was born on September 26, 1934, in Hancock County, the daughter of Max A. and Loretta I. (Smith) Cole. Marilyn married Don K. Bushfield, and he preceded her in death on November 30, 2007.

Marilyn is survived by her daughters, Robin A. Abney and husband, Roger, and Jayne R. Barnes and husband, Bill; grandchildren, Rachel Midkiff, Zachary Prosser and Kathryne Barnes; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband.

In 1952, Marilyn graduated from Shelbyville High School. She earned her degree as a paralegal, from Indiana Central University. For 42 years, Marilyn worked as a paralegal for Phillip W. Brown Attorney at Brown, DePrez and Johnson.

Marilyn was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder and deacon.

She was also a member of the PEO Sisterhood, Psi Iota Xi Sorority, Diligent Diggers Garden Club and the Shelby County Historical Society. Marilyn also volunteered and served on the Shelby Senior Services Board.

Marilyn felt she was blessed and very grateful for her many friends throughout the years.

A gathering of friends and family will be from 1 to 3 pm, Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

The Celebration of Marilyn’s life will follow at 3 pm, Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Inurnment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.
