Linda Rae Hindman
July 3, 1945 — August 21, 2026
PLYMOUTH-Name the woman born July 3,1945 who was a knowledgeable, compassionate, helpful, librarian, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and lover of the trivia game show Jeopardy. Who is, our sweet momma Linda Rae (Krieg) Hindman?
Born to Raymond and Mary Krieg she was the youngest of four and has been fondly described by her siblings as the baby, who was both spoiled but also a tomboy. She attended Plymouth schools from first grade through High School, graduating in 1963. After high school, she went on to achieve her training to be an x-ray technician, where she then later worked in the South Bend Hospital.
Linda married her high school sweetheart, Robert Hindman on October 16, 1971 and the two set off to begin their new adventure in Wheatland, Wyoming where she embraced a new lifestyle near the mountains. During their time there, they welcomed daughters Sarah and Emily. She fondly talked and was reminiscent of her time in Wyoming, describing the rugged beauty of the West and the stories of all the wonderful people there that grew to be family.
After they started their family, Linda and Robert moved to Oklahoma where they welcomed their third daughter, Katherine. It didn’t take long for the family to integrate into the community and really find their place. Never a newcomer for long, she again poured herself into the culture around her to learn the history and stories of the local people. She quickly became a volunteer at the public library and ever a student of life, learned the art of genealogy. She took this love of genealogy and brought it back to her and Bob’s home of Plymouth, Indiana.
Linda and her girls moved back to Indiana to be closer to family. She had a career of over twenty years at the Plymouth Public Library. She was the children's librarian, impacting many children throughout the community. As the director of the computer room, she assisted thousands of local citizens with an array of needs. She thrived as lead librarian of the genealogy department, helping people connect to their family histories. She had a special passion to make people feel welcome and not to be shy of the unknown; she welcomed the challenge.
She continued to serve her community by volunteering at the Marshall County Historical Society, Friends of the Library, and as a member of the Marshall County Genealogical Society. She was not only a knowledgeable and helpful librarian and genealogist, but trivia whiz-showing her smarts as a jeopardy master, a sports fanatic, voracious reader, wonderful cook, friend to animals, caretaker, organizer of the family Krieg Reunion, and a feeder of the birds.
She taught her children and grandchildren many wonderful things about living- empathy, compassion, patience, advocacy, independence, and how to love unconditionally. She truly knew how to give of herself. She was there for us through every milestone, every defeat, and everything in between, teaching us that we were the best when we were really just being ourselves. She made sure that we all were well rounded and had fun, even in the tough times. She was the most generous person we knew.
Through dignified grit and determination, she fought hard and long to stay with us. We are devastated and heartbroken but joyful that her struggle is over.
She is at peace. Thank the Lord that He let us have her as long as we did, we will cherish every moment.
Linda is preceded in death by her mother and father, sister Carole Sarber, husband Robert Hindman, and many other family members and friends.
Linda leaves behind her world: Sarah and Brett Roberts, Emily Hindman, Kate Camper and Shannon Smith; Grandchildren Anna Kuhn, Alexus (Andrew) Pederson, Eric Camper, Alli (Frank) Guerra, Emily Roberts, and great-granddaughters Ophelia and Juno Guerra. Sister Charlene Jensen, Sandy Hindman, brother Chuck (Gloria) Krieg, Linda (Don) Querry. Nieces Julie Spitznagle and Becky Orr and many other wonderful nieces, nephews, and family members.
Oh, How wonderful life is when you are in our world.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, September 6, 2026 from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at the Oak Hill Cemetery Chapel, Plymouth, Indiana. Please come share memories and stories.
