Gloria A. Duggan

Gloria A. Duggan passed away on October 5, 2026, in Greencastle, Indiana.

Gloria was born in Mt. Carmel, Illinois on February 23, 1934, to Edward (1973) and Cordia (1967) (Snyder) Hollen.

Gloria was a descendant of both Hoagy Carmichael and Abraham Doolittle. One of her best friends growing up was Nancy Dussalt of “Too Close for Comfort” fame, as Nancy’s grandparents lived nearby.

Gloria graduated from Mt. Carmel High School, Class of 1952. She enjoyed going to the football and basketball games. She was involved in a few different clubs as well. She was a member of the First Church of God. She grew up on 2nd Street in Mt. Carmel, so her Church, High School, and Downtown were all within her walking distance from home.

Gloria learned about a man named David Duggan through letter writing. They wrote back and forth while he was in the Navy stationed in Korea for two years and eight months before they ever met in person.

In the meantime, Gloria would run around with her friend. At times, Gloria and her friend would go to Terre Haute, meeting up with her other friends there. They would drop two kids off at the sitters and then go back for them later. There was another time when Gloria was on a train from Anderson to Terre Haute, but the Mt. Carmel train was leaving as they pulled up. It was a three-hour wait for the next train to Mt. Carmel, so she called the people in Terre Haute to come and get her for a few hours. Later, she found out that the people with the kids were David’s cousins and the sitter was David’s mom and stepdad. Gloria had no clue because of the name differences. David always said he was 10,000 miles away and she had already met his family.

Gloria married David E. Duggan, of Terre Haute, Indiana on February 11, 1956. They then moved to Greencastle due to David’s employment at IBM. In the late 50’s, she worked at Miller/Jones Shoe Store. After her first son was born, she became a housewife and stay at home mom. Later in life, she would be a member of The Putnam County Chorus group. She also volunteered as a South Putnam Band Parent and Chaperone.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of fifty-four years, David (2010), and all of her brothers and sisters. She outlived everyone in her family, making it to 92 ½ years old. She said it must have been her clean living.

Gloria is survived by her two sons, Thomas H. Duggan (Candie) and Timothy S. Duggan (Lisa); her three grandsons, David Michael Duggan, Timothy “Scott” Duggan II and David Henry Nichols “Nick” Duggan; through marriage, she gained a granddaughter, Nicole Ancona and a grandson, Austin Ancona; also surviving are several nieces and nephews and many dear friends and neighbors as well.

Services are being held at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home in Greencastle on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 1:00pm.
