Ann Bass McDaniel, 94, of Manilla

Ann Bass McDaniel of Manilla, Indiana, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025, at Walker Place in Shelbyville. She was 94.

Ann was born in Shelbyville, Indiana, on May 17, 1931, to Raymond M. Bass and Marie Crosby Bass of Fairland. She graduated salutatorian of the Waldron High School Class of 1949. She married Bob J. McDaniel of St. Paul, Indiana, on November 23, 1950. Together they raised six children and were married for 61 years before Bob passed away on March 6, 2011.

Ann was a person who took every job or activity “to raise”. While employed by McCorkle Stone, Smith Grain, and Lotus Grain, she became a trusted friend to many in the Rush County farm community. She was a member of the Friendly Neighbors Home Economics Club (Friends Too) for most of her adult life. And, second only to her love of her family was her passion for the Waldron Methodist Church. She taught high school and adult Sunday school classes for most of 50 years. Ann and Bob provided significant labor and financial support when the church converted and moved into the local bank building after the previous building was damaged by fire. Ann also raised funds for the church through the annual community birthday calendar and the holiday sale of her delicious homemade noodles. Ann was well-known for her delicious cooking and baking—especially her homemade noodles, pies, yeast rolls, and black raspberry jelly.

Ann is survived by daughter Kathy Meyer (Alan) and sons Jeff (Cindy) McDaniel, David (Teresa) McDaniel and Frank (Erin) McDaniel, thirteen grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, parents Raymond and Marie Bass, sisters Allene B. Eiler and Judy VanDao, brothers Marsten R. Bass, Dwight S. Bass, and Dwain J. Bass, sons Rick McDaniel and John A. McDaniel, grandson Bruce McDaniel, and great grandson Jakob R. McDaniel.

Services will be held at the Waldron Church of the Risen Christ (formerly the Waldron United Methodist Church) on Monday, February 16.

Visitation will begin at 10 am with the funeral service at 11 am. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville, IN.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Gentiva Hospice, 37 South Park Blvd, Greenwood, IN 46143 or to the charity of your choice in Ann’s name.
