The nonprofit Heeps of Jeeps organization will host its annual event this weekend at the Highland Woods Center at Vincennes.
Each year, they host a two-day gathering at that location to raise money to support the efforts of first responders in both Knox and Lawrence Counties. The total raised in 2025 was around $400,000.
Each year, nominations are also accepted for the First Responder of the Year and for 2026, outgoing Knox County Sheriff Doug Vantlin has been named the recipient. Vantlin is completing eight years as sheriff and is retiring at the end of the year. He is being honored for his leadership, service and commitment to the Knox County community.
The formal presentation will be made at the opening-night ceremonies Friday, June 19th when all first responders are recognized. The activities will continue on Saturday, June 20th
