Storm system rolls through southeastern Illinois and southwestern Indiana

Damage assessments and cleanup is underway across the region as a strong storm system brought heavy rain, hail, tornadoes, and thunderstorms Sunday evening causing damages and flooding in Lawrence County (IL) and Knox County (IN).

A tornado was picked up on radar around 6 p.m. CDT as the system rolled out of Richland County east into Lawrence County. It continued to track east as it moved through south of Lawrenceville and north of St. Francisville before crossing the Wabash River into southern Knox County. There have been no reported injuries.

Heavy rains of 4 inches and above caused extensive road flooding in rural areas of Lawrence and Knox Counties and flood warnings remain in effect. Those traveling should be cautious of high water and never attempt to cross flooded roadways. Flood warning have also been issued for the Embarras and Wabash Rivers

Wind damages have been reported in many areas of Lawrence County including the city of Lawrenceville itself
