Authorities in Washington, Indiana responded to a report of an armed and potentially suicidal male subject at the Eastside Park Tuesday evening.
A call was received around 6:35 p.m. ET regarding the man who was inside a vehicle at the park. Police at the scene attempted to speak with him, but he did not respond. They were finally able to reach him by phone, but he remained inside the vehicle.
The park was evacuated and closed down with additional special tactical units from the Indiana State Police and other agencies called to the scene. After three hours, the man threw a firearm from the vehicle and then exited it and was taken into custody for mental evaluation by EMS personnel.
There were no injuries. The subject's name was not immediately released. No word on if any potential charges could be filed.
