The IHSAA Foundation announced that six member schools have been selected to receive a $1,000 grant to support efforts to start or enhance a Student Advisory Committee (SAC).
Recipients of the grant include: Carroll (Fort Wayne) High School, Evansville Day High School, Griffith High School, Morgan Township High School, South Vermillion High School, Tri High School.
The grant provides financial support to member schools, allowing committee members to attend the IHSAA’s Student Leadership Conference (SLC) later this week, host meetings throughout the year to develop leadership skills, and assist in the committee’s required community service project or unity event.
“One of the remarkable opportunities the IHSAA Foundation maintains is the ability to support leadership development initiatives among young people in our state,” says IHSAA Foundation Board Member and retired IHSAA Commissioner, Bobby Cox. “In conjunction with the IHSAA Student Advisory Committee, the Foundation continues to incentivize member schools to create, maintain, and sustain student leadership groups within the local school. It should always be a primary goal to develop and foster leadership activities for the next generation of leaders. The investment by the Foundation with annual SAC grants furthers the commitment to this important objective.”
To qualify for and redeem this grant, member schools must adhere to the following requirements:
• Member schools must attend the Student Leadership Conference with a minimum of six student-athletes.
• At a minimum, one administrator and six student members of their committee must attend at least one Fall Principals Meeting.
• At least six meetings focusing on leadership development, community engagement, and inclusivity must be hosted throughout the school year.
• Committees must plan, organize, and activate a community service project or unity event.
Since 2022, the IHSAA and IHSAA Foundation have awarded $57,000 in SAC Grants to member schools. Additional information about the SAC Grant can be found at www.ihsaa.org/foundation/sac-grant.
