In celebration of Halloween, the City of Shelbyville set the official trick-or-treat hours.
Trick-or-treat will be Thursday, October 31, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. During this time, families and children are encouraged to visit homes that have porch lights on, signaling that candy will be available.
Safety reminders for drivers and Trick-or-Treaters
Halloween is a time for fun, creativity, and spooky festivities, but safety should be the top priority. The city asks everyone to keep the following safety tips in mind.
- For Trick-or-Treaters and parents:
- Only approach houses with their porch lights on, as this indicates residents are welcoming trick-or-treaters.
- Wear bright or reflective costumes to enhance visibility in the dark.
- Ensure children are accompanied by a trusted adult if they are under the age of 12.
- Remember to remove any masks when entering local businesses.
- For drivers:
- Stay Alert: Slow down, especially in residential areas, and be prepared for increased pedestrian traffic.
- Avoid wearing masks while driving. Costumes can add excitement to Halloween, but masks can reduce visibility. Drivers are urged to remove any masks or headgear that could obstruct their view.
The city is excited to offer a fun and safe trick-or-treating experience for everyone. The Shelbyville Police Department is asking everyone to work together to make this Halloween a memorable and safe one for all residents. Also, look out for officers who will be handing out candy from their patrol cars.
