The Shelbyville Fire Department today released information regarding their response during the current winter weather situation.
During the winter weather, EMS calls will include a response of a medic and a squad. The squad will act as a quick response vehicle with two members to assist with patient care and removing patients from houses.
Often, the patients are unable to walk and are required to be removed by a stretcher. The combined weight of the stretcher and patient in snowy conditions with unplowed driveways and sidewalks poses a safety risk for the patient and the crew.
Shelbyville Fire Department's goal remains to be providing the highest level of medical care in the safest manner. This will include transporting the patient to the closest medical facility.
